Who's Your Daddy? Tests to Go.

Such an obvious title.

Sorenson Genomics is test-marketing a do-it-yourself DNA kit.

On the U.S. west coast, the sample collection kits are available in Rite-Aid stores. Meijer has the mid-west covered, including Michigan and Illinois. Using the prepaid mailer, and for an additional $119, the DNA samples will be compared by Identigene's laboratory.

Sorenson's C.O.O., Doug Fogg, said, "We would certainly like to distribute this kit nationwide... a lot of people just are not aware that testing for paternity purposes is so readily available and affordable."

"Just because something's available does not mean it's safe or effective or worth your money," Kathy Hudson, director of the Genetics and Public Policy Center at Johns Hopkins University, countered.

Day-time television viewers around the U.S. were loudly exclaiming, Maury Povich, in the case of paternity testing, you are not the father. Anymore.

When I went into the states in July of 99, I saw all kinds of billboards that read '1-800-R U MY DAD'
I couldn't believe it.
I hate the Maury Pauvich, show, too. ALL he does now is the cheating and DNA tests..He used to be a respectable journalist - well, more so, anyway.
What has the world some to? Honestly. I can't believe that there is such a need for these tv shows and DNA tests.

And teenage boot camps. Don't forget Maury and the out of control teen.
Presumably Maury's guests get access to services they may need (like, this is the 22nd guy you've tested, maybe we should help you help yourself before we test #23).
There's nothing in a pharmacy DNA test that compels a father to be responsible for the child either. I'd like to think that Maury helps facilitate that process too.

Well, The fact that a person used to be a respectable journalist, doesn't really mean anything nowadays, and if someone (Maury Pauvich) creates a show along the same lines as The Jerry Springer Show, then you can already figure out what kind of standard the show will have.

It is indeed good that people get access to this services and i presume it will all be paid by the show, for me I would rather have a thing like this done a little more private and without of course without this 'gotcha' mentality.

Thanks for dropping by, Nathan. It's just my assumption that Maury's people help their guests and provide counseling services along with legal advice and more.
I think it's a sad statement that Maury's DNA episodes deliver the best ratings for his shows.
