Billboard has been publishing
for the complete entertainment
industry since 1894. The first
album ranking appeared in 1945,
and it became a weekly staple
beginning in 1956, with
the explosion of rock music.

The Billboard 200 rankings
are based upon sales data compiled
by Nielsen SoundScan. Sales

include retail album sales and digital downloads when all tracks on the album are purchased.

HipHop is unrepresented in this week's top 10. Artists may need more than a limited vocabulary and a nickname to score those top spots.
